The Golden Peak

It has been a long time, two years, since I used this blog. Like Forrest Gump, I ran for a while and then suddenly stopped. I am starting again now, but may stop after a while. Life is a series of starts and stops, and you reach somewhere that these bursts take you.

What brought me back to the blog world is Ponmudi, the golden peak. It is around 50 km from where I live to Ponmudi. Just about 1000 ft above sea level. The peak is mostly owned by the government, mostly by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). KTDC is an establishment that owns prime property in many exotic locations in the state. It is the official hosts to the "God's own country".

The funny thing about KTDC is that it loves to build, but hates to maintain the things it has built. This attitude may not be limited to just KTDC, but probably is consistent across all government establishments. At its property in Ponmudi, the old building, looking so beautiful on the KTDC site (http://www.ktdc.com/golden-peak.php) is in complete dis-repair. Its roof fallen in many places and the garden overrun with weeds. But a new restaurant has been built since I was there last time and signs of ongoing construction of a new building is seen as you enter the premises.

In spite of all that, the place still has a charm. Hope it will achieve its true potential sometime in future.
